Welcome back to school!!  We had a great first day!  We are getting to know each other.  We are learning classroom routines.  We established our classroom Code of Conduct!  We are ready to learn!

STEM FAIR!!!  We would like students to participate.  See the info below!
 

All students in kindergarten through 8th grade are encouraged to enter projects in our upcoming school STEM Fair on Thursday, January 19.  Students may do an individual project or work in teams of two.  Participants are invited to present a project in any STEM field.

Congrats on receiving First Reconciliation!  We are starting our Advent Activities!  We prepare for our Savior's birth.  We started our "trip around the world" in Italy yesterday.  We learned that St. Francis started the first Nativity scene.  Be on the look out for your Christmas Artifact Bag.  Please return it on the date listed on the sheet. 
The end of the first Trimester is Friday.  Report Cards will be available to view on Dec. 8th.  Happy Advent!

We are getting into the swing of things with school.  This month we will learn about St. Francis and starting to prepare for Reconciliation.  We are lucky to have Mrs. Spickler teach us about St. Francis.  The marathon is Friday.  We start walking at 12:30.  Please join us if you can.  Bring in that Marathon money!!!

We have had a great first week of school.  We are off to a good start.  Next week we will start spelling lists and other homework.  Look at your child's planner and green folder carefully.  Watch for my September Newsletter!  It is on the second grade home page and I will email it out.  Next week there is Parent Orientation Wednesday.  I look forward to seeing you there.

Here we are one week before Spring Break!  We will start Geometry this week. We will concentrate on Holy Week during religion.  When we return after Easter, we will dive into Eucharistic.  In Social we will test on Thursday and then start Government after break.  We have had 2 Flat Stanley's return.  Our hope is they will start pouring in after Easter. I hope you family has a very Blessed Holy Week and Easter Sunday!

Happy Leap Day!!!!  This week we have a lot going on.  We are testing in Reading and doing some Literature projects.  We will have no spelling this week.  In Math we will continue through double digit subtraction.  Keep practicing those basic facts at home. We will we discussing the impact immigrants had on our country in Social Studies.  We will continue learning about Lent and start some First Eucharist activities in Religion.  We received our first Flat back.  Flat Brooke returned from Arizona.  We were very excited about that.

Today the second graders were treated to walking the Stations of the Cross with some parishioners and Deacon George.  The students were very reverent and Deacon George complimented us on how well we did.  Next week we will read about Helen Keller and work on Adverbs.  In math we will start double digit subtraction.  During Lent we are preparing for Jesus' death and resurrection with some good deeds.

Happy Ash Wednesday!  Lent is beginning!  Students will head to Mass today and we will focus our religion on Lent.  In Math we are working on diagonals and midpoints, this is a mini unit and should be completely within the week.  We will then start double digit subtraction.  In Social, we started our new until on the history of our country.  We will discuss how we won our freedom and how immigrants shaped our country.

We have started a new month.  Catholic Schools Week was a big hit.  During Computer class we researched African American Achievers.  Students looked up information on their own person.  Students seemed to learn a lot about the great Americans.  We finished graphing in math and are moving on to diagonals and midpoints.  This will be a mini unit and then on to double digit subtraction.  Please remember that warm fuzzies are due on Monday, February 8th.

Happy Catholic Schools Week.  We have a had a great week celebrating out great school.  Monday, we celebrated our community.  We were dressed in a wacky way.  Tuesday, we celebrated our school.  We dressed in spirit wear.  The staff beat the 8th graders in our annual volleyball game.  Today we are celebrating our country and we are doing some service work.  We are making valentines for Veterans.  Tomorrow is vocation day.  We will dress up in our vocation.  We also hear chats from a priest and a sister.  Friday we end the week in uniform and during Mass we will thank our wonderful volunteers.  The week ends with BINGO!!!  All Saints is a great school!  I am honored to be a part of it.

Happy New Year!! We are back at school and working hard. We are reading Rose and Blanca. A story about two sisters who help each other. We started telling time in math. We are continuing learning about Native Americans in social. We have also started working our way through the Mass. Liturgy of the Word is first. I hope you had a restful and peaceful Christmas break.

This is a short week of school. We are wrapping up Advent and heading toward Christmas. Students will be doing some writing activities and wrapping everything up with a Christmas Around the World party tomorrow. On January 12th we are going a school wide physics field trip.
Here is what the trip is all about: Physics Force Field Trip –Each year the physics department at the U of M puts on a show to teach physics concepts in an engaging way. The show is different each year so we don’t exactly know what we will be learning but here is a link with video clips of past shows to give you an idea of what the field trip is going to be like http://www.physics.umn.edu/outreach/pforce/circus/ If you haven’t already sent in your child’s permission slip please do so ASAP.

We are still working on our Advent Acts. Hopefully students are doing things at home to prepare for our Savior's birth. We are working on verbs this week. We wrote about what gifts we would give to Jesus for religion. We are hoping to test on double digit addition before break. Please keep practicing at home. We are on the country of Mexico this week for our tour around the world for Christmas.

I hope you all have a very Happy Thanksgiving! It is good to have everyone back after our break. We are starting a new unit in reading. Our first story is Pearl and Wagner, Two Good Friends. We are working on the long e sound. We are continuing our way through double digit addition. We started our Christmas Around the World unit in Social Studies. Please watch for the Christmas bag to come home. We are preparing for the birth of Jesus with some Advent activities in Religion. Please ask your child what they are doing to prepare the way of the Lord.

I hope you had a lovely long weekend. We are starting a new geometry unit in math this week. Students will be classifying shapes and measure their perimeter. In Reading we are reading a fable called the Bremen Town Musicians. Students are working on plural nouns and the rules to follow to make them plural. We started our unit on The Native Americans in socials, we are discussing the Southeast Woodland region.
We had a visitor last week. Jon Koznick came in to read to the students on Election Day. He read Monster Needs Your Vote. The students learned a lot from him. We thank him for coming in.
We are also collecting hand and feet warmers for our troops to celebrate Veterans Day.



October 30, 2015

This morning we had a great experience walking with Jesus in the Eucharistic Procession. The students were very reverent and prayerful. I was extremely proud of them!! We will have our All Saints Day Festival this afternoon. Thanks to the parents who helped get that ready!
Next week we have Friday off. We will continue to get ready for Reconciliation. The students are doing an excellent job with their word problems in math. Keep practicing the basic facts. In Reading, our comprehension skill is sequencing. We start a new Social Studies unit about Native Americans.

We have a short week this week. We are testing in Reading and Math. After MEA we will start new units in both subjects. Mrs. Spickler came in for the last time today for St. Francis. We will be having our spelling test on Wednesday this week. Please have your kids study hard for two days. Have a great short week and long weekend.

We enjoyed Mrs. Spickler today teaching up about St. Francis. It was an amazing way to end the week. Ask your children about the wolf of Gubbio. There are pictures below of her with the children.
Next week is a short week due to MEA. Marathon money is due Monday, October 12. Monday is also a spirit day for the students as well. They can wear All Saints attire for their tops and uniforms pants. Have a great weekend.

Welcome to October! We are starting a new month. We found out we made our Marathon goal today, so the students were treated to a cartwheel and a hand stand by their teacher. So proud of them for making their goal. Way to go students!
We started a story about the Desert today. We will be working on it all week. Spelling words have ed and ing endings and the rules that go along with them. We will take our math test tomorrow on basic facts then start a geometry unit. Please keep practicing math facts at home all year long. Mrs. Spickler came in today to continue with St. Francis. She is telling us many interesting things about him. She makes us want to travel to Italy!
Wednesday is another Late Start. Students will arrive to school two hours late. Next week is a short week due to MEA.

The Marathon is fast approaching. Here are some reminders!
Marathon shirt on Friday. You may bring a water bottle to fill and carry while you walk. Please dress appropriately for the weather. It should be beautiful!! Parents are more than welcome to walk with us, please let me know if you plan on coming. Also, if you plan on walking with a different class and want to take your child with let me know that as well. If you take your child home with you please sign them out in my classroom. Thanks!!!

Welcome to a new week of school! Tomorrow is out of uniform day and Culver's Day! Also book orders are due before 3:30 tomorrow. This week is very busy. We have a Marathon Pep fest tomorrow. Wednesday is a Late Start. Students will arrive at school 2 hours later than usual. Friday is Marathon Day!! Spirit Wear is the attire of the day. Remember we will go to church. Parents are welcome to walk with us. Get that Marathon money in. Right now we are in the lead. Mrs. Margarit brought us the gold shoe trophy because we have brought in the most money. See picture below.

We are reading a Henry and Mudge story about camping in Language Arts. We will be learning about predicates in grammar. We are talking our first Religion test tomorrow. The students are cruising on their math facts. In Social we will work on different types of maps!

Today is picture day!!!!!  The kids can be out of uniform for their pictures. 

We have made our Hope and Dreams for second grade.  The students set goals from themselves that they hope to achieve during this year. I posted a picture of them.  We have also started our Reading Groups.  With the help of Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Goldammer, and Mrs. Poquette we are able to have small reading groups with a mixture of both classes.  It is very exciting!!  Students are in small groups and receive more individualized help.

Mrs. Spickler returns tomorrow for more about St. Francis.

Start collecting your Marathon money.  We walk next Friday!!  All are welcome to walk with us!

This week has some interesting events happening.  We had a guest speaker today.  Mrs. Spickler came in to share her love of St. Francis of Assisi.  She will be coming in through out the next few weeks to teach us about him.  We are reading a story about space this week.  In math we will be working on our basic facts.  Raz-kids passwords will be coming home this week so students can start reading at home. In Social we are starting maps and geography.  Thursday is picture day so the students may be out of uniform.

We are starting our second week of school.  We have established rules and some routines.  We will be taking our first spelling test Friday.  We are starting our first story, Iris and Walter.  We are excited to dive into math.  Science with Mrs. Rodgers has taken us outside.  Our classroom rules are attached in a picture.  You can see what rules we came up with.  It is going to be a great year!

We had a great first day here in second grade.  The students were eager to learn the new routines.  We had some outdoor time where I took pictures.  They are a cute bunch!!!!
