Happy Summer time!

Thank you for all your support this year.  I appreciate all of the help with our parties and the volunteers for spelling and reading.  This has been a great class of children to work with and I enjoyed our year together.  I hope you have a great summer.  Here are a few ideas to keep sharp for the next school year!

READ, READ, READ!   Read a variety of books and magazines.  Visit the library often.  The children have a reading log they can complete after each book.  Keep a list of interesting words in your little dictionary.

Log into Raz-Kids and read a few books.

KEEP A JOURNAL!   Write about summer trips and adventures.  Write poems and stories.  Write postcards to friends!  Also the children have a book to practice cursive writing to be ready for next year.

SUMMER MATH!  We only touched a little on multiplication and fractions so the math books will come home to work on also.  Remember that multiplication is just repeated adding!  Don’t forget those addition and subtraction basic facts.

Girls and boys, you have a beautiful Religion book to treasure.  Reread the stories and lives of the Saints at the back.

Enjoy the summer and see you in the halls next year!

Hello Parents,
We have had a very successful STEM Fair, a super Valentine's Party, and a terrific "I love to read" month.  We have celebrated our friendship with each other by making banners to hang on our desks.
We enjoyed our stuffies coming to visit and writing about their adventures.  And we are learning more lower case cursive letters.  We are learning to use calculators when we add up our reading minutes each Wednesday morning. All in all a busy active classroom.
Looking forward, the children are excited to learn about how to perform in a musical.  They are working hard with the 7th graders.  We are practicing how to subtract with 2 and 3 digit numbers.  And we are discussing the parts of the Mass to prepare for first Eucharist.
May you have a blessed Lenten weekend.

Jan. 13, 2017

Dear Families,
Another week has flown by.  The children did such a nice job with their parts of the Mass today.  They really made it a prayerful time.
Our next big event will be the STEM Fair which is on Thursday, Jan. 19th.  If you are doing a project please bring it in on Thursday morning.  The previewers will interview you at the fair in the evening.
Next week we will also have a Math test on Tuesday about addition.  We will also have our end of the unit reading test over a couple of mornings.
Have a restful long weekend.
Mrs. Rodgers

Hello Parents,
Wishing you all a Blessed Christmas.  May you have a restful holiday season.  The STEM Fair will be on Jan. 19, 2017.  Hopefully all of you who are working on a project have received the papers describing how to present your project.  Unfortunately we will not be providing the boards this year, but using any standard tri-fold board should be fine.  Looking forward to all of the exhibits.
Merry Christmas,
Mrs. Rodgers

Dec. 15, 2016

Hello Families,
We have enjoyed hearing about your traditions for Christmas and the children's favorite ornament and recipe.  We have been learning about different Christmas customs from around the world.
We had a preview of the Band Concert tonight.  The children in band have amazing talent.  If you have the time, even if you don't have a child in band, you owe it to yourself to hear this great music.  Also our school Christmas program is next week, Dec. 20th.  It is a busy day with out of uniform, Culver's night and our concert.  It will be a lovely concert.
Many children are excited about doing a project for our STEM Fair but haven't signed up yet.  The registration has been moved to Dec. 22nd to give you a chance to sign up.  Just go to the School web page and it is right there on the first page.  Sign up today!!
We have started double digit addition.  In order to add these numbers quickly, they need to know the basic facts.  Keep working on flashcards with them.
A Blessed Weekend to you all.
Mrs. R.

Hello Families,
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.  We are now into the season of Advent and we have many different ways we are preparing for Christ.  We are studying the family of Jesus with the Jesse Tree.  We have an Advent tree which gives us an activity to do and then we decorate an ornament when we meet that goal.  We are studying Christmas customs around the world  which will also be our theme of our Christmas party.
During all of this we are working on science and math too.  Don't forget to think about the STEM Fair and a project to do.  This week's story is about 2 friends who make a project for a science fair.
May your Advent Season be blessed.
Sincerely, Mrs. R.

Hello Families,
Our last three weeks have been full of activities for Marathon, All Saints Day Festival, Veterans Day, and Thanksgiving.  I want to thank all of our parents who helped with all of these activities.  We enjoyed our Spooky time reading. Lots of flashlights were making their way across the printed page.  We got together with Ms. Thompson's sixth grade class to work  on letters to our Veterans.  We have been working very hard on many thanksgiving writings and we even made a prayer to say at Thanksgiving Day.
The weather forecast sounds like Winter will be coming tomorrow.  Please be sure the children have the clothing needed.  We have all be pretty lax with remembering a sweater or jacket.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Rodgers

Hello Parents,
I hope you have some relaxing plans for our long weekend.  Enjoy the Fall days while we still have them.
Conferences are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.  A little different from previous years.
Thank you in advance for all of you who are helping with our first celebration, All Saints Day.
Our first book order went in on Tuesday after school.  Our next book order will come out in a couple of weeks.  Same due date:  Culver's night!
Our Saints reports are up in the hall.  The children did a great job.
The children have earned their "Wacky Hair Day" by being one of the first to make their goal for Marathon.  We also have earned an afternoon of spooky reading.  Dates for both will be out next week.
God Bless,
Mrs. Rodgers

Hello families,
What a beautiful Fall day we had!  We took advantage of the weather to make a wind sock and try it out in the lovely breeze we had.  It was great fun.
Tomorrow is Spirit Day and we can be in Marathon shirts or All Saints Spirit wear.  Our class was one of the first to make our goal and so we will decide when we will do our incentive.  The children voted for a "Wacky Hair Day".  We will choose one day in the week of Oct. 24th.  We also won a "SPOOKY READING AFTEROON.  That will be on Oct. 31st.  They can bring in blankets, pillows, flashlights, scary books.  We will enjoy the afternoon reading.
Monday is library.  Don't forget to send in books so the children can get new ones for their long weekend.
We are at the end of the Reading unit and also our first chapter in Math.  We will go over the math pretest and they can use it as a study guide for the test. The reading test is all about the phonics rules from the spelling words, vocab words from the stories, and grammar lessons about writing sentences.
God Bless you,
Mrs. Rodgers

Dear Families,
What an exciting week we have had.  We went to the play Elephant and Piggie and the children loved it so.  Their faces were beaming.  Our Marathon is tomorrow and they couldn't be more excited.  We hope for a nice day for our walk.  This is our second week of after school Spanish and our first week of choir.  Many wonderful learning opportunities are happening here.

This week our spelling words are challenging.  The words needed a bit more practicing this week I think.  Also I have been sending home some of their math cards to practice.  Math will be easier for them if they can recall the basic facts quickly.

Wishing you a lovely weekend ahead,
Mrs. Rodgers

Sept. 22, 2016

Hello Parents,
Our highlight this week was our Marathon Kickoff Assembly on Monday afternoon.  The kids are all excited to make our walk around the community and bring in their pledges.  We haven't decided on a classroom reward if we make our classroom goal.  If second grade combined reaches our goal, we will make a special lunch with Mr. Chinn.  Also, check for those Marathon t-shirts.  We need to know if some kids need a new size.  Deadline is Sept. 26th.

Fridays are Library days so be sure to get those library books in.  Thanks.
Have a super weekend.
Mrs. R.

Sept. 15, 2016

Hello Families,
I can't believe we are at the half way mark of September.  Highlights for the week:  We made family crests to hang up in our class.  This reminds the children that they belong to the family of God.  We are also having our first spelling test of 15 words.  What an accomplishment!
All Saints Festival is this weekend.  Try to take in some events of Family Day.
Next Friday is bus safety day.  We will go out and hear from the bus drivers how to ride the bus correctly.  Good to know especially for field trips.
Have a wonderful weekend.
It was great to see the parents who could stop by for our information night.  If you couldn't make it and didn't get the Sept. Newsletter, let me know.
God bless you,
Mrs. Rodgers

Sept. 7, 2016

Hello Families,
Our first two days of school were great.  We have had both Music and Gym classes.  We visited the computer Lab.  We are establishing rules and behaviors so we will be a great learning community.  Tomorrow we will have our first Art class with our new Art teacher.  We can't wait!  We will close our week with Friday Mass.  Our Library day is Mondays.
I am looking forward to working with your children and helping them grow more closely to Jesus.
God Bless you and your families,
Mrs. R.
